The selection of keywords is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimisation. If you select key phrases that no one is searching for or are unrelated to your site; then all the optimisation done on your site will be pointless; because it won’t result in targeted traffic. You may get a top ranked position - but if no one is searching for the phrase then it will all be in vain. We therefore undertake extensive keyword research at the start of any search engine campaign to find out what key phrases are being searched for within your target market and what competition there is for each key phrase. From this we can recommend the best key phrases to optimise your site for. This service is included as part of our Guaranteed Search Engine Positioning Packages, or at an additional cost for the non-guaranteed service. This Keyword Research for Optimization Service is only £89.99 per campaign. | |

Site Relevancy to keyword queries on search engines
To have the most 'relevance' to a given search term, that term (keyword or key phrase) should be mentioned in several places on each page as well as in the meta tags. Your page will be ranked depending upon how a particular search engine measures your page 'relevancy'.
 |
If you use keywords and phrases that are not related to your actual content, you will be banned by internet search engines. |
For each web page, your first paragraph is your description; keywords are concentrated within the first 200 words on the page, reading from top to bottom; and there must be a balance of keywords to text, or keyword density.

Choosing the right Keywords and Key Phrases
Choosing the right keywords and key phrases is the backbone of a successful search engine optimization. Your website title, description, and meta tags are some of the areas that should be keyword intensive.
So the first and most crucial step in a successful approach to the search engines is to identify the best list of keywords and short phrases for your site. Many times, multiple-word keyword phrases are more effective than single keywords
Use specific keywords that accurately reflect your site.
Use keywords that reflect your location if you offer a location-specific product or service
The most popular keywords may not be the ones to use, and selecting specific keywords relating to your products and/or services will generate targeted traffic to your website, resulting in increased profits.
People frequently misspell words when typing, and your selection should include those words also.

The Purpose of Meta Tags for Search Engine Optimization
Your chosen keywords are included in the main areas of the page e.g. title, keywords, description, heading, body, links, and alt tags. Here is a brief explanation of the purpose of each tag for Search Engine optimization:
Title Keywords Tag
The TITLE is a very important tag for top Search Engines like Altavista, Yahoo, Google, etc.,. Your page will be assigned additional points if it has keywords contained within the TITLE <TITLE> tag.
 |
It is vital that you optimize your TITLE by including a keyword in it, which accurately describes the page content. |
Meta Description Tag
The words placed within the meta description tag are given some ‘weight’ with most search engines and can help a page to rank high in the search results for these particular words. Just as important:
 |
The words placed in this tag appear under the title in a search engine's list of results (in most search engines). |
The meta description tag is a snippet of HTML code that belongs inside the <Head> </Head> section of a Web page. It usually is placed after the title tag and before the meta keyword tag
If no information is supplied for this tag, or this tag is omitted from the HTML code of a Web page, the search engines will often use the first words that appear on the Web page as the description of the site that appears on search results pages.
Meta Keywords Tag
If you had to give up one meta tag, the meta keyword tag would be the one to choose. This tag is usually placed beneath the title and meta description tags in the <HEAD></HEAD> section of your pages' HTML code.
 |
Some search engines still look for this tag, so it is useful to complete. A particular keyword should not be present more than three times in your Meta Keywords tag. |
Before you attempt to create a meta keyword tag (ideally these things should be done before the Web site is ever created):
Choose your relevant keywords.
Write the site's content based on these keywords.
Create a title tag using the same keywords.
Create a meta description tag as a marketing sentence, also based on these keywords.
Header Tags
Header tags <H> can be used to make large text. Place the text you want to become the header of the page, between the header tags. There are six sizes of font, with one being the largest and six being the smallest size. This appears in the title bar of a browser, and is the headline on your web page.
 |
Most of the Search Engines search for the keywords in the Header Tags to get accurate optimisation of the site. |
Comment Tags
Comment tags provide a way for webmasters to make notes right on their pages. They are hidden in the HTML code and so are not visible to the site's ordinary users.
At times, text on your site may not be optimally created for search engine spiders. To combat this deficiency, consider using comment tags above your text blocks.

Image Alt Tags
IMAGE ALT tags are tiny pop-up boxes of text that appear when you position your mouse cursor over a webpage image. If you include these tags, it not only helps your visitors who are browsing with their images turned off, but also some search engines will index this text, so it could help your rankings. Be sure to use your most relevant keywords in these tags.
 |
Most of the Search Engines look for the keywords in the Image Alt Tags to get the accurate position of the site. |
Link Text Tag
The HTML anchor (<a>) tag is designed to allow any text to be displayed as the clickable link.
 |
Generally all Search Engines check for the keywords in the Link Text of the page. |

Calculate the number of keywords, and frequency of keywords vs. the number of words on your page. For high ranking on a search engine, your keyword density must not be too high or too low, and each search engine uses different values when calculating this factor.
